Today was actually a pretty good day! I slept in and went to do my weekly grocery shopping at Woolworths. I bargain shopped and ended up buying a huge amount of food for only 40 dollars, so I'm extremely happy with myself. Then I decided to start looking over the reading I had to do and realized it was only 4 pages worth of genetics I already knew, so it took me about 5 minutes to write everything down. I love it when that happens.
With my extra time I decided to venture my way to Savers, a discount clothing store, since I barely have any pants and all of them are too big for me and all of my shoes now have holes from all the walking I've had to do. The whole thing, according to MapQuest, would be about a 40 minute walk away – totally doable. So I went off by myself up to North Melbourne/Brunswick area, somewhere I'd never been before, and found it was absolutely charming. There were so many little shops and restaurants and bakeries that really reminded me of small town living again. I never thought I'd miss it in a big city, but I got all nostalgic. Well, most of the town was really nice, until I got to the turn that was supposed to go to Savers, where the entire neighborhood reminded me of the projects again. So there I was, walking around in the projects, when I finally get to the place where mapquest told me to go, and of course, there's nothing there. No Savers, no anything closely related to Savers.
I knew better than to wander around a sketchy neighborhood looking for it, so I decided to get back to the main road and just walk back. I accidently took a right instead of a left, and ended up walking down the road towards another town, where I saw the biggest Coles I'd ever seen. For some reason grocery stores really make me happy, maybe cause they remind me of home or something, but I decided to go inside and have a look. It was HUGE, and had as big of a selection of foods as grocery stores in America do! I walked out after exploring for a bit, and found it was attached to this giant mall with more bakeries and fish shops and EB Games and – best of all – Kmart! Better yet, they were having a giant sale, so I was able to get a new pair of boots, 3 shirts, a broom, and a face towel for 30 dollars. I practically cried. I'm definitely going back again because I could have easily spent another hour in there looking at things except I knew I needed to get back before it got dark (last thing I wanted was to walk through the sketchy neighborhood at night). So successful day, aside from getting pants, which I realize will never be successful for me here as they don't sell pants short enough for me...my life is pathetic.
The night finished off with walking over to RMIT and watching Harry Potter and the Philosopher's (!) Stone and hilarious youtube videos until 2 in the morning. Quite the good night :)
